International Dance Competitiion

Location: Sharp Auditorium, Catlett Music Center, University of Oklahoma

Event: Celebrating the beauty and diversity of dance from around the world: Asia, Africa, Europe, Native America, North America, Oceania, South America.  The audience determines the winner in this competition, which is open to public participation and attendance.  Ticket are $20 for general admission ($10 for students with ID) and are on sale at the Jacobson House. 7 pm Sponsored by The Jacobson House Native Art Center and the University of Oklahoma School of Dance.

38th Annual California State University, Long Beach Pow Wow

Location: 1250 Bellflower Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90840, Powwow Arena, Upper South Campus, Central Quad

Event: California State University, Long Beach's Annual Powwow, a Native Peoples social celebration, returns to the campus' central quad on Sat. and Sun., March 8th-9th.  The largest spring event of its kind in Southern California, the Pow Wow at Cal State Long Beach is focused on displaying the university's strong American Indian presence.  Admission and parking are free.  We strongly recommend spectators to bring folding chairs.  The two-day event, which will feature American Indian dancing, arts, crafts and food begins at 11 am each day and runs until 10 pm on Sat. and 7 pm on Sun.  In addition to contests and inter tribal dancing, there will be Gourd Dancing with Dancer Registration closing at 2 pm on Sat., March 8th.  All dancers and drums are invited.  Native foods such as mutton and beef stew, Navajo tacos, fry bread and Indian burgers will be on sale at the event, and American Indian vendors will be selling both traditional and contemporary American Indian art.  Not responsible for theft, loss, accident, injury or personal expenses.  Absolutely no alcohol or drugs allowed.  California State law forbids overnight camping.  With respect to our elders, no pets allowed.
